Dr. Chunlei Wu Receives ISO Excellence Award for Decade-Long Contributions to ISO/TC 256
On October 21, 2026, the ISO Central Secretariat presented the ISO Excellence Award to Dr. Chunlei Wu, general manager of Guangzhou Huifu Research Institute Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hubei Huifu Nanomaterial Co., Ltd. (HIFULL). The award recognizes his more than a decade of dedicated service and outstanding contributions at ISO/TC 256, Pigments, dyestuffs and extenders. It marks another major recognition for a HIFULL technical expert, following Chairman Dr. Yuelin Wang’s award in 2025 as an ISO/TC 256 representative. The honor also underscores HIFULL’s significant contributions to and leadership in international standardization for nanomaterials.
A Decade of Work Across Four ISO/TC 256 Working Groups
As a Chinese delegate to ISO/TC 256, Dr. Wu has been closely involved for many years in the technical work of several working groups: WG 2, Nanotechnological properties of pigments and extenders; WG 3, General test methods for colorants and extenders; WG 7, Functional pigments and extenders; and WG 8, Colorants and extenders for coating materials, plastics, paper and printing inks. The award also highlights his outstanding work on ISO 18473-3:2018 and ISO 23157:2021, as well as his sustained efforts to advance new standards, including ISO/DIS 6032, ISO/WD 23157-2, ISO/WD 6034-1 and ISO/WD 6034-2.
Award at a Glance
- Recipient: Dr. Chunlei Wu, General Manager of Guangzhou Huifu Research Institute
- Award: ISO Excellence Award, presented by the ISO Central Secretariat
- Committee: ISO/TC 256 — Pigments, dyestuffs and extenders
- Key standards: ISO 18473-3:2018 · ISO 23157:2021
- In progress: ISO/DIS 6032 · ISO/WD 23157-2 · ISO/WD 6034-1 · ISO/WD 6034-2
These include ISO 18473-3:2018, Functional pigments and extenders for special application — Part 3: Fumed silica for silicone rubber application, and ISO 23157:2021, Determination of the silanol group content on the surface of fumed silica — Reaction gas chromatographic method. Both are landmark achievements in HIFULL’s international standardization work. Together, they provide technical support for fumed silica applications in silicone rubber and establish a test-method basis for tailoring silica surfaces through silanol control. Complementing each other, the two standards form a systematic international framework covering product, application and testing.
Bridging R&D and International Standards
Combining frontline R&D experience with international standards work, Dr. Wu has built a strong bridge between technical research and standards development — a combination at the heart of the ISO Excellence Award. This honor recognizes both his professional expertise and long-standing contributions, and demonstrates that HIFULL’s systematic participation in ISO standardization, underpinned by its technical strength, has reached a new level of maturity.
The growth of the global nanomaterials industry, together with emerging applications in fields such as new energy, artificial intelligence and robotics, is driving international standardization. Standards, in turn, help guide product performance, safety and environmental impact in these new applications. Through its sustained, in-depth and structured participation in ISO/TC 256, HIFULL’s technical experts are translating the company’s expertise in specialized fumed nanomaterials — including fumed silica, fumed alumina and fumed titanium dioxide — into standardization outcomes. The recognition of both Dr. Yuelin Wang and Dr. Wu by the ISO Central Secretariat reflects HIFULL’s long-standing commitment to a standards-driven strategy and its ability to integrate technological innovation with international standardization.
The ISO Excellence Award recognizes technical experts, project leaders and working group convenors who have made a major contribution to ISO’s standardization work. There is no limit on the number of awards presented per year or per committee.
